Wonderful natal classes, first started attending with my 1st pregnancy 9 years ago and now again that I’m 9 months postpartum. Really enjoy the perinatal health offerings at various stages of parenting. 🙏🏼

This past weekend I attended a class where an instructor said the following (summarized): "It's been a tough week for all of us. If it hasn't been a tough week for you, you should feel free to leave. In fact, you should definitely leave. That's called building community." The implication was obvious: if you voted for Trump, leave. You're not welcome here. I vote along the same party lines as this instructor clearly does, but how does this approach do anything but further divide us from our neighbors? Why are you allowing instructors to exclude folks in the name of "building community?" All this does is feed polarization and condone purity tests for entering into certain community spaces, not to mention it's classist given voter demographics. (And yoga already has socioeconomic-related access issues: 10.1089/jicm.2023.0479.) This is not the first time I have encountered an instructor at this studio making a political statement, but telling people to LEAVE if they don't agree with you? WTF. Your mission statement says: "We welcome and embrace students of all identities, abilities and backgrounds to find their unique path toward well being." You might want to amend this... It is shortsighted and unhelpful to disown/disparage everyone who disagrees with us. A studio where the vibe seems to be "you're with us or against us" strikes me as neither spiritually nor ethically aligned with yoga, and it does not offer open-hearted self care or an inclusive community for its practitioners.

The space is absolutely gorgeous! Everything is bright, airy and calming. My first Vinyasa class was great and challenging. One suggestion: maybe mark the rows so people know where to line up their mats. Once I was situated we had to shuffle around since people were kind of scattered about. The instructor did a good job of wrangling everyone though! I'll definitely be back :)

I’ve been practicing at the studio for about 6 months now and it’s been a wonderful experience. There are people who’ve been coming here for years, too. Not only has my flexibility, alignment—and sleep—improved over several months, but I also feel welcome in this space. There are so many instructors that it’s hard not to find ones who fit your own personal style and goals (however, some of the more popular instructors and class times do fill up). Classes are offered throughout the day to accommodate flexible schedules, which I also like. The skylight studio is incredible; I love being able to watch the clouds and occasional plane fly overhead. The studio managers are really nice, too. Another important factor for going here is that I don’t feel judged for showing up in an old t-shirt and unshaved armpits. Of course, there are some stylish people who go here. As for the reviewers complaining about rooms that were too hot, it’s actually okay to mention that to the instructors. I personally prefer the upstairs studio when possible. If you signed up for a class with an instructor whose style you don’t like, you can always talk to one of the studio employees or one of the other yogis to discuss who you might have a better “flow” with. Anyways, please don’t come to Brooklyn Flow—the place gets crowded enough on weekend mornings as it is. ; )
