I like the gym itself but the crowd after 5 has become a huge deterrent to going that so many people are here during peak. I didn’t know a gym could let that many people in here at once. When I joined 8 months this was never an issue but now following the January New Year’s resolution bunch, there’s always lines for every machine and there’s no floor room. I’d probably be better buying weights and working out in my apartment. I don’t want to cancel but nowadays I feel like half my workout is waiting and the saunas haven’t been working since the beginning of the year :( really kind staff though!
For users in Taiwan exploring the 'Fitness Near Me' category and interested in gyms in New York City, consider Crunch Fitness - 34th Street, located at 222 E 34th St, New York, NY 10016, USA. They can be contacted at (212) 545-9757 or +1 212-545-9757.
Based on recent customer reviews, Crunch Fitness - 34th Street is facing significant issues with overcrowding, particularly after 5 PM during peak hours. Multiple reviewers report that the gym becomes extremely packed, with long lines forming for almost every machine and very limited floor space available for workouts. This has become a major deterrent for some members, with one even considering purchasing home equipment as an alternative due to the extensive waiting times. This issue reportedly worsened after the influx of new members following New Year's resolutions.
Furthermore, the saunas at this location have been out of order since the beginning of the year, which is a point of disappointment for members. Despite these drawbacks, the staff is consistently described as kind.
Potential members are advised to be cautious of promotional offers, such as a 25% off mailer, and to visit the gym for a tour during peak hours to personally assess the crowd levels before signing up. One reviewer suggests that if a crowded gym is acceptable, a less expensive option like Blink Fitness a few blocks away might be a better choice.
An update from a reviewer indicates that the overcrowding extends to cardio equipment, with lines for treadmills and even stair masters, making it difficult to share. The weight machines and benches are also packed, often with individuals using their phones between sets. While management has attempted to address phone use with signs, members have reportedly scoffed at and disregarded these requests.
Environment: The gym itself is liked by at least one reviewer, but it suffers from severe overcrowding during peak hours, leading to limited floor space.
Services and Features: Crunch Fitness typically offers a variety of workout equipment and potentially group fitness classes (though not specifically mentioned in these reviews). Saunas are listed as a feature but have been out of order since the beginning of the year.
Crowd Levels: The gym is reported to be absolutely full during peak hours (after 5 PM), with lines for cardio machines (treadmills, stair masters) and weight machines/benches. Floor space is also limited.
Staff: The staff is consistently described as kind.
Amenities: The saunas have been non-functional since the start of the year.
Promotional Information: Crunch Fitness may be sending out mailers with a 25% off offer. However, potential members are strongly advised to tour the facility during peak hours to experience the typical crowd levels before joining. A less expensive alternative (Blink Fitness) is suggested if a crowded gym is acceptable.
In summary, if you are located in Taiwan and are looking for 'Fitness Near Me' options in the Kips Bay area of New York City, Crunch Fitness - 34th Street might be appealing due to its liked facility and kind staff. However, significant and persistent overcrowding during peak hours, leading to long waits and limited space, along with non-functional saunas, are major drawbacks reported by current members. It is highly recommended to visit the gym during peak times to assess if the crowd levels are acceptable before committing to a membership, even with a potential discount.

Feb 05, 2025 · Emma FontanaNo matter how enticing that 25% off mailer they keep sending out is. Don’t join this Crunch right now. It is absolutely full during peak hours. Don’t believe me? Do a tour during that time and take note for yourself before signing up. You’re better off joining Blink Fitness for half the price if you’re ok going to a crowded gym a few blocks away Edit after their response: there’s a line for the treadmills and sometimes even the stair masters. Cardio equipment is impossible to share. The weight machines and benches are packed with people who like to sit on their phone too. Management put up some magnets up asking them to keep phone time to a minimum between sets, but I’ve literally seen members scoff at them and throw them to the ground
Mar 22, 2025 · GDO NOT USE THIS LOCATION FOR CLASSPASS. They are a scam and will refuse you if you show up 10 minutes late. I’ve been to several other Crunch locations that do not refuse and allow you to arrive any time during 2 hour slot. Use these locations instead: - west 38th - midtown east - union square
Nov 22, 2024 · Jacob RothsteinIf you’d like to spend your morning having a weirdly bouncer like situation when you’re just trying to work out come here. Boyfriend sent me a “VIP guest pass” through the app (he is a member). I now gather these guest passes are not in fact guest passes they are basically their free trial if you are interested in joining. On the guest pass you receive all it says welcome!/it’s valid for one day within the next 7 (fine print says 18+, local ID, must not have visited a crunch in the last 30 days all of which I met but also “special restrictions may apply” but doesn’t say what the restrictions were). After arriving/signing in I was told I do not meet the “other restrictions” and would need to pay $25 but when I asked what they were he literally said “I just told you you don’t meet them” and to email his manager who would be in in two days during business hours. There was a back and forth that ended in pay $25 or don’t work out. Obviously I left. I was a member many years ago and have occasionally visited other locations on class pass and always had a pleasant experience so maybe just avoid this location and their warm welcoming staff
Mar 15, 2025 · Erin CaraherGreat gym excellent workout floor, equipment is always clean and working and staff is ALWAYS friendly and welcoming. Great sauna - Steam room doesn’t work and has down forever and a day (even tho it says on their website they have one) something to be missed on these cold winter days. But over all an excellent gym!
