I am writing to formally address an incident I witnessed at the Dodge YMCA involving personal trainer Janice Campbell. I believe it’s important to bring attention to this matter, as it reflects poorly on the standards of behavior expected from staff at this facility. While at the gym, I witnessed Janice engage in what I can only describe as inappropriate and harassing behavior towards a paying member. The incident occurred when the member was using a machine, and Janice demanded to "work in" on sets. The member kindly asked for just one more minute to finish their set, but Janice responded by rolling her eyes and badgering the member. She made several comments, including stating that she "works here," was "in a hurry," and had "the right to work in," despite the member’s polite request to wait. To clarify, the member asked for a brief moment to finish their set. It is worth noting that the machines to Janice’s left and right were open, and the gym was not crowded. Janice could have easily chosen one of those machines while waiting, but instead, she chose to confront the member in a manner that seemed more about asserting power than about respecting gym etiquette or personal space. I want to emphasize that this behavior is unacceptable and goes beyond a simple misunderstanding. It felt like bullying, especially when directed at a member who was simply trying to finish their workout in peace. This is not the standard of professionalism or respect one should expect from a staff member, particularly at a community-focused organization like the YMCA. After the incident, I spoke to the member in the locker room and let them know that I had witnessed the interaction. I also expressed my concern that this kind of behavior from Janice has been ongoing. It’s disheartening to see such entitled, disrespectful conduct from someone who is supposed to be a role model and trainer for others. I hope that the YMCA takes this feedback seriously and takes appropriate action to address this matter. Everyone deserves to feel safe and respected in a gym environment, and it’s disappointing that an employee acted in a way that goes against the values of the organization.

I really like this Pool & Gym, the staff is friendly and the pool is clean (but BUSY). The locker rooms are spacious and clean, definitely a Brooklyn family feeling full of kids but easily navigated! So that could be good for you or bad, I guess? Great place IMO!

I use this Y primarily for its pool. The facility itself is good, but it is constantly overcrowded by individuals who do not respect lap swimming etiquette. Lane speed signs are ignored, which is frustrating. The lifeguards are usually great but the rest of the staff generally seem to be uninterested in their jobs, which was especially annoying while registering for a membership.

This gym is not worth the $80+ monthly. the staff who work the weight room don't do there jobs at all. the teenagers are constantly play fighting, on their phones and the gym is just a hangout spot for them. the staff don't do anything about and all they do is stand around. Working out is impossible unless you go at night when they're about to close. If you're trying to workout here just put your money elsewhere.

This is a great gym for the price (in Brooklyn, where gyms are expensive). It’s clean and the staff are friendly. Classes are high quality and fun. The pool can be a bit warm/cloudy water/crowded at busy times, but again, for Brooklyn it’s a decent one. The saunas (wet/dry) are awesome. I wish they had towel service. overall I’d be hard pressed to choose a different gym while living here!
